Jerry N. Fischer

Oct 17, 1941 – Feb 24, 2018

Age 76 of Council Bluffs, IA.  Preceded in death by brother, Cletus Fischer; sisters, Joan Chandler and Bernadine Badgley.  Survived by sons, Duffy (Natasha) and Mark (Addie); daughters, Tracy Fisher and Terry Fischer; grandchildren: Sophia, Ava, Aden, Sasha, George, Corabelle, and Calvin; mother of his children, Polly Fischer; brothers: Kenny, Rex, Jack, and Pat Fischer; sister, Donafae Daam; and a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved.

SERVICES:  Saturday, March 3, at 10:30am at Heafey Hoffman Dworak Cutler's West Center Chapel.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Nebraska Children’s Home Society, 4939 S. 118 St., Omaha 68137, www.nchs.org

Jerome “Jerry” Fischer was born in St. Edward, Nebraska on October 17, 1941.  He was the ninth and youngest child of Joseph and Mary Viola Fischer.  Jerry’s family moved from rural Nebraska to Omaha in the mid 1950s.  He married Polly (Hughes) Fischer in 1967, and together they had four children.  Although Jerry struggled with alcoholism, Jerry loved his family completely.  He spent evenings playing catch with his kids in the backyard, building forts, taking his kids to work at the lumberyard, or piling the kids and their friends in the back of his old work van to transport a pack of adolescents to the movies.

Jerry spent his life working as a tradesman.  For the past 25 years, he worked for himself in construction and mobile home repair.  He loved working with his hands and was not afraid of hard work.

Jerry always had a strong relationship with Jesus.  His faith only strengthened after he overcame alcoholism in his early 50s.   Jerry committed his faith and love into the Holy Spirit and remained steadfast to his conviction.

Jerry spent the last twenty years being a committed father and an exceptional grandfather.   His grandchildren were the lights of his life.  Most often Jerry could be found on the floor surrounded by grandkids playing with cars, blocks, or actually anything that would stack.  He loved his family.  He loved being a Fischer, and he had the loud voice and bellowing laugh to prove he was one.
